Day 134 Castles for Kings and Queens

Well, we almost went from one end of the Island to the other today!  From way down East to Kings' Castle to Victoria in the west.  After some morning appointments, we all got in the van and headed to our favorite park "down" east called Kings' Castle.  It's such a surreal quiet park way out of the way in the woods complete with bigger than life size fairy tale statues of the three little pigs, mother goose, Cinderella's pumpkin carriage, and the like.  I knew our friends the Perics were going for lunch, and I'm glad they stayed.  The kids had a blast seeing each other again!  And the bugs weren't bad at all, maybe because the grass hadn't really started to grow yet.  Yeah!

Often, when you see PEI by itself on a postcard, it will look like this.  But, in reality, it sits more like the picture below when you are talking about North/South, East/West.  Therefore, as you can see way in the East (right side of the picture), Kings Castle is how far we went east from Charlottetown, which is where #1 is on the map below.  Then we drove west almost to the area called Chelton Beach, which is 40 minutes west of Charlottetown.  We were in the car for 3 1/2 hrs today.

So, as you can see, the east is "down" and the west is "up," thus Islanders say "up west" or "down east."  In fact one of our homeschooling groups call themselves the "down east" group!

Then we dashed back home (the park was 1 hr away btw), let the dog out and back in, and was on our way 40 minutes west to a place called Victoria for supper with a minister and his wife that Jared knows from a group of ministers he has gotten to know over the past two years.  They had two small dogs that Abishai was fascinated by and just kept making laps around and around their kitchen and living room.  Abishai gets louder and crazier the more people he sees and the more tired he gets.  He's a full fledged extrovert.  And very touchy too.  He has to "pat" everything and checks in with me by getting a hug on his way past.  Very affectionate.  Again, Jared and I are both introverts, so it's interesting how our bookends, Abishai and Benaiah are both so outgoing.  I think both middle kids are introverted though.

The kids were thrilled that Jared helped them on the merry go round!  Even Abishai and Levi thoroughly enjoyed it!

Justin said, "Oh, my favorite park with the equipment that's like the sky city in Star Wars!"

Beautiful wooden fort, complete with hills and tunnels and climbing walls.

Part of the fort.

Levi on the right, and Abishai.  Two peas in a pod.

I have pictures of all my kids going through tunnels like this at some point, even if it's inside at the Children's Museum in Indianapolis.

Benaiah wouldn't fit up there, so we didn't even try.  Cinderella's carriage.
